Congratulations on your new addition! These early days are so special, and I’m honored to capture this special time. Here are a few tips to help make your newborn session as relaxed and enjoyable as possible for you and your baby:
Scheduling Your Session:
Get in Touch: Once baby arrives, send me a quick message so we can secure a spot.
Timing: Sessions are best when baby is 4-20 days old. Weekday mornings (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.) work best, as newborns are typically sleepiest then.
Special Requests: If you’d like specific props or setups, let me know in advance.
Session Day Tips:
Keep Baby Awake: Stimulate baby an hour before the session (a warm bath works well) to help them sleep soundly during photos.
Feed Baby Before: A full belly makes for a happy, sleepy baby. If you’re more than 30 minutes away, plan to feed them when you arrive if need be.
Siblings: You know your children best on how long they can hang. I have a TV, few toys, and books. Usually I have snacks unless my kids have recently been in...then its questionable. I try to take these photos at the beginning of the session so they can have an early exit. You can chose to leave for a ride, go outside, or even bring 2 cars so they can go home. Sessions can last 1.5-3 hours, which is a lot for little ones.
Bring a pacifier: If you are okay with baby using one, even if baby doesn’t seem to take to it. Sucking is a soothing mechanism & can really help with settling baby once I have them in place for photos, even if I have to hold the pacifier for a bit to help.
Dress accordingly: The studio will be warm to keep baby comfortable. Feel free to bring things to change into to be comfortable.
What to Bring & Wear:
For Baby: No need to bring outfits—I provide wraps, headbands, hats, and props. If you have something special you want to incorporate, let me know!
For Family: Choose soft, neutral colors (like greys, whites, tans, creams) to keep the focus on baby. Avoid logos, neon colors, and bold prints.
During the Session:
Take Breaks as Needed: Don’t stress if baby needs to eat or have a diaper change. We’ll go at their pace.
Enjoy the Moment: This is such a special time and I've got you! You can expect to sit back, relax, (even take a nap) and soak it all in!
